What makes a good candidate? to answer this question may be hard but to make it a bit easier for all of us, I think a candidate should have specific plans for the country. A candidate must be aware of what is going on around him/her. He/she must have a stand on the important issues of our country.

It’s very easy to be a political candidate. If you have the money for campaigns, are of the legal age and have lived in the country for a specified number of years, filing for candidacy won’t be much of a problem for anyone. A lot of people want to lead the country. Many of us want to serve our people. To some, service means running for office. With all the political candidates for the 2010 elections, how would you choose the person you want to lead our country or your district? Well, for starters, I would definitely NOT choose a candidate like this:

For those of you who don’t know, Ara Mina is running for councilor in Quezon City. For someone who plans to run for office, this video is very VERY disappointing, more than it is bull.  The questions thrown at her are just some of the issues that all of us care about. I would like to comment on everything that she said but it will just be pointless. My reaction to this can be summed up with one word: BULLSHIT.

Only in the Philippines

It is only in the Philippines that you would find a great number of artists running for office. Heck, there is only a thin line between politics and show business. While there are artists who have proven themselves in the political arena, many have “acted” their way in and out of politics.

Popularity is essential in getting known by the voting public but it shouldn’t only be the factor that one should use to run for office. You need to have a brain to at least form smart opinions and take a stand on pressing issues. You need to be strong enough to handle important matters. No, you cannot use depression as an excuse for not following the news.  You cannot say you don’t have time to see what’s going on around you because you have other things to take care of.

In politics, you need to have the guts to face every disgusting aspect of life. To bluntly say that you get depress in watching the crimes on TV is like saying you would rather turn a blind eye on these matters than handle them.

This interview has (MUST) hurt this candidate’s chances of getting elected. There is only one thing that candidates should learn from this : Think before you speak. My 7th sticky note has moved up to the top rank : If you’re not sure what to say, shut up.
