Surviving The WorldA day and a blog after I learned the news, I still couldn’t stop yapping about COMELEC’s stunt on Ang Ladlad.

The hope for equal representation in Congress dissipated to thin air. Rigid, Prejudice and discriminatory. COMELEC’s action was an outrageous display of bigotry.

Immorality is the main reason COMELEC rejected the group’s petition. They fear that approving the group’s petition would endanger the Filipino youth. To bring some light on this issue, here are some points on Ang Ladlad’s constitution:

  • That society shall uphold human rights which, as citizens of this country we should equally enjoy regardless of sex or sexual orientation, racial descent or ethnicity, age, disability, religion, social and economic status…
  • That every individual shall have the right to state one’s own sexual identity and orientation;
  • That the proclamation and expression of sexual orientation shall not endanger any individual’s rights to life, liberty, and property;
  • To emphasize that the LGBTs shall not be given special rights;
  • To unite the Filipino people in creating a society free from oppression and all forms of discrimination.

Different groups have worked for social reform and equality. Ang Ladlad aims for the same things. I see no danger in this. Threat to the youth? Don’t they know that the youth they so wanted to protect, face great danger everyday? Drugs, sex and alcohol. Rock and roll right?

Why can’t people open their eyes to the bitter face of reality? We all want reform, an improvement to the crooked society we’re all members of, but when one group starts standing up and fighting for this change we all want to have, we turn our backs to it and decide to just keep our eyes shut. It’s easier that way I guess – to be blind and grope aimlessly in hopes that we don’t end up falling in the corrupted pit of society.

A colleague asked ” What kind of society will my child grow up in”? I said “A society of rigid, discriminating fuckers” He said “A world full of bigots”.
